Victor Hugo's 'Les Miserables'

Victor Hugo's Les Miserables

In the following network, nodes are characters in Victor Hugo's famous 1862 novel. Characters are connected if they encounter each other in chapters of the book.
Jean Valjean -the main character- is a hub in the network, but also that he is one of a kind, no other characters have similar acquaintances. Compare this to Babet and Geulemer, and Claquesous three ruffians that governed together the third lower floor of Paris from 1830 to 1835. They are surrounded by a green circle, signifying that they form a clique: they are all connected to each other. But also they have similar acquaintances such as Eponine and Brujon.
Javert, who is the cop in the story is connected -among others- to these three, but also to other characters such as Montparnasse, an associate of the three ruffians, the Thenardier Couple, Fauchelevent, and others.
